Thanks to the sunshine and the mild climate, we decided to take a trip to Varenna, just a few minutes from Colico.
Breakfast on the terrace of our residence at Lario Village, a relaxing view that makes us start Sunday with an extra gear.
We leave Colico, driving along the old state road that runs along the lake and that allows us to see enchanting views, passing through Piona, crossing Bellano, in a short time we are in Varenna. After leaving the car, we must continue on foot along what is called the Walk of the Lovers, a path suspended above the lake that allows you to reach the heart of Varenna, an enchanted world: balconies protruding from colorful and radiant houses, which frame a beautiful lake.
After about ten minutes of walking, we arrive in a small square overlooked by bars, cafes and restaurants: we are on vacation.
From here we enter a path made of cobbled streets, stone walls and arches covered with ivy and the scent of wisteria in bloom accompanies us to the entrance of Villa Monastero, we pay the ticket to visit both the villa and the gardens, we look out from the balcony at the entrance of the park and ….meraviglia….the first thing that strikes us is the proximity to the lake, we are suspended in a parallel world, a world of beauty and peace that takes your breath away.
The garden of the villa, the botanical garden develops right on the waters of the lake, on a length of almost two kilometers.
The walk is pleasant, relaxing, the climate is mild and the soul finds peace and serenity.
There are countless botanical species present, coming from all over the world, flowers and colors that create a unique scenery.
We follow the main avenue, which through palms and cypresses accompanies us to the Villa, in front of which is the unmistakable landing, with two twisted columns and a loggia from which you can enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the landscape of Lake Como.
It is also possible to visit the interior of the villa with its furnishings, its floors and frescoed ceilings that take us back in time as in a fairy tale.
It’s also wonderful to discover that the Province has also organized a corner for children, equipped to introduce them to the world of museums, here the children can indulge in drawings and discover many things about art, Silvia in fact is there for them and follows them in their every curiosity and need, an exquisite girl.
There are many initiatives for children in this corner of paradise, so as to offer the opportunity to always spend a few nice afternoons with their parents and discover new worlds.
In the park there is also a small bar where you can have lunch, stop for a coffee break enjoying the silence and harmony sitting on the tables overlooking the lake.
The staff in the Villa is exquisite, kind and helpful.
The more we know about Lake Como, the more we are convinced that there is no more beautiful place in the world, if we then consider the proximity to major cities, such as Monza or Milan, we consider it a fortune that there is such a magical place that allows you to “escape” from city stress and enjoy relaxing weekends like this. Spending an afternoon in the gardens of Villa Monastero was a continuous discovery because at every step you are faced with an incredible view of Lake Como, whether it’s wide views or small glimpses is always a feeling of wonder.
It’s time to go home, happy for this time spent with the family and the day ends with a dinner that has as background an unforgettable sunset that illuminates our stay with fabulous colors.
